Denis Shapovalov v Hubert Hurkacz Head to Head

This will be the fourth meeting between the two players. Hurkacz leads the head-to-head 2-1, with wins at Winston-Salem and Indian Wells in 2019, and an easy straight sets win for Shapovalov in Dubai last week.

Shapovalov Squeezes Through Second Round

Denis Shapovalov did not have the best of starts to the season as he lost both his matches at the ATP Cup,  and after a hard fought opening round win against Jannik Sinner at the Australian Open, he succumbed in the third round to compatriot Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Returning to the tour for the Doha and Dubai legs, Shapovalov did well to make the quarter-finals at Doha, where he was defeated by Taylor Fritz against the run of play, after being in control and looking to serve out the match.

Making his tournament debut in Dubai last week, Shapovalov registered a comprehensive win over Jan-Lennard Struff – a player he had struggled immensely against in the past, and followed it with a another straight sets win over Hubert Hurkacz, a junior rival who had won their last two meetings on the hard courts.

A convincing win against the resurgent Jeremy Chardy made Shapovalov the favorite to make the finals and he looked well on his way in his final four encounter against Lloyd Harris before the South African upped the ante as Shapovalov was about to close out the match and once again a win was stolen from his racket.

After an opening round bye here in Miami, it was a surprisingly tough second round for the Canadian against little known Ilya Ivashka of Belarus and had to come back from a tiebreak down to close the match in three sets.

Shapovalov will like to raise his level immediately hereon to be in with a shot for a deep run here at the Miami Masters 1ooo.

Hurkacz Looking To Repeat Promising Delray Beach Run

Rising Pole Hubert Hurkacz is ranked just within the top 30 in the world in the ATP rankings and has  exhibited promise over the last couple seasons. The year was off to a good start for the 6’6″ Next Gen star with a title win at the Delray Beach Open.

A quarter-final showing at the ATP 250 in Melbourne was a good add-on, but first round losses at the Australian Open and at Montpellier dented his confidence as he was hoping the new season would bring him consistency.

Challenging opponents in Stefanos Tsitsipas and Denis Shapovalov in the round of 32 at both the ATP 500s, i.e. Rotterdam and Dubai resulted in exits for the Pole and the season was starting to look underwhelming for Hurkacz.

It was a routine opening win for Hurkacz after a bye here in Miami against American veteran Denis Kudla, but he will like to start notching up wins against players of the likes of Shapovalov and others to ensure he is progressing towards taking his career to the next level.

Shapovalov v Hurkacz Prediction and Tip

Both players have been earmarked for greater things in the years to come, but after all the promise displayed by them, they will be hoping to convert results into deeper runs and more titles.

A close match awaits us and Shapovalov will be aware he needs to play considerably better than the previous round to succeed against the big Pole. It will be down to who plays the bigger points better, but expect the Canadian to pull through in a close three-setter.

Tip: Shapovalov win in three sets: 3/1 (bet365)
