Andrey Rublev v Marton Fucsovics Head to Head

Davis Cup and qualifiers in tournaments included, there have been five matches played between these two players and Rublev leads 3-2. Fucsovics also withdrew from one other match because of fitness concerns.

Between the previous season’s French Open and now, Rublev and Fucsovics have faced off three times with one other match abandoned due to the Fucsovics walkover. Rublev has won all of them, including one as recently as 10 days ago in Dubai where the Russian came through 7-5, 6-2 to make it to the semifinal.

Rublev Races Past Sandgren

After a first round bye, Rublev demolished Tennys Sandgren in their second round encounter, winning it 6-1, 6-2 to make it to the round of 32 for the second time in Miami.

The match lasted a mere hour and five minutes with Rublev breaking his American opponent four times and never himself facing a break-point throughout that time.

The two sets followed similar scripts, with Sandgren going into the third games of both at 1-1 but then struggling to make another hold. Rublev did fritter away eight break-point chances but kept creating more and finished off the encounter easily.

This win was Rublev’s 17th of the season, and going with just three defeats, it is an indicator of his form. As is the fact that he has lost just two sets in those 17 victories. And while his third round opponent has beaten Rublev twice before this, the Russian’s current form and his clinical opening win over Sandgren should add a lot of worries for Fucsovics.

Fucsovics Made to Go the Distance

Right from the word go, there wasn’t much to choose between Fucsovics and his second round opponent Thanasi Kokkinakis. Break-points were scarce, breaks of serves were few and far between.

In the first set, for instance, Fucsovis had three break-points in the third game but those were the only ones for either player throughout the set. The Hungarian world number 40 came through in the tie-breaker.

The second set followed suit with no breaks of serve again, a tie-breaker followed again but this time it was Kokkinakis who took control from the get go and completed a match equaliser.

It was finally in the third set that the first break of serve was on show, with Fucsovics punishing his Australian opponent’s serve in the fifth game. Kokkinakis levelled things off in the eighth game only to drop his serve again in the ninth before Fucsovics served it out to win the match.

With 13 wins and four losses in main draw of tournaments this season, the Hungarian has done extremely well but will that be enough to test out Rublev? Highly doubtful.

Rublev v Fucsovics Prediction and Tip

It isn’t too much of a surprise that Rublev is a heavy favourite. While Fucsovics has fought hard for some time in his matches against the Russian before this, we will still go with Rublev carving out an easy win here.

Tip: Rublev to win in straight sets: 8/11 (bet365)
