Roberto Bautista-Agut v John Isner Head to Head
This has been a rivalry which first kick-started in 2013, and between then and 2019, has seen Isner take a 3-1 lead over Bautista-Agut on head to head. Isner won in their first two meetings in Beijing and Auckland before Bautista-Agut pulled one back in the 2016 edition of the Auckland Open.
Their most recent meeting came in 2019 at this very tournament which saw Isner defeat the Spaniard in two tie-breakers.

Bautista-Agut Nearly Stumbles against Struff
Not too many would have give Jan-Lennard Struff too much of a chance in his third round match against Bautista-Agut but the German did make life difficult for his higher-ranked opponent.
Struff carved out an early break of serve, and while Bautista-Agut levelled it out soon after, the German broke him yet again at 4-4 before serving out the set to take the lead.
Bautista-Agut came a winner in the second set with just one break of serve separating the two players, in what was the only game that saw any break-points for either player. The Spaniard then began with a break of serve in the third set as well, before exchanging breaks again which helped Bautista-Agut take a 3-1 lead.
Three games later, he broke Struff for the third time in the set and finished off the encounter in three.
This followed a first round bye and a second round walkover from Lloyd Harris after the latter injured himself. Now comes Bautista-Agut’s toughest challenge given their past record and his opponent’s excellent serving.

Isner Sends Auger-Aliassime Packing
In a match where the players didn’t give their opponent an inch on their own serve, it was an extra mini-break in each of the two tie-breakers that proved to be the difference between Isner and Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Neither player faced a single break-point in the entire match, with Auger-Aliassime winning 48 first serve points to his opponent’s 47, losing nine and 11 points respectively only.
All of this meant there was only one way to decide both the sets, a tie-breaker and that’s where Isner edged past his Canadian opponent. Isner, who was playing in only his sixth match of the season, was off to a flying start in both the tie-breakers, taking a 3-0 lead in both.
And while Auger-Aliassime attempted a late comeback into it, Isner’s powerful serve made it difficult for the Canadian to save himself from getting away.
Isner, who had earlier needed three sets to get past Mackenzie McDonald, would now have the confidence to take on the world number 12 after having shown signs of improvement in this encounter.
Bautista-Agut v Isner Prediction and Tip
On paper, this is Bautista-Agut’s match for the taking but from the evidence of what was on offer in Isner’s previous match, his serving rhythm seems to be back and when that happens it’s tough to go against him. We think we will be better off going with the games market.
