Rublev’s Run Refuses to Die

Of the 22 matches under his belt, Rublev has won 19 this season, three of which have come in this tournament in Miami. And Rublev has triumphed in all of them in straight sets.

After disposing off Tennys Sandgren and Marton Fucsovics in the second and third rounds of the competition, Rublev was expected to face some resistance from Marin Cilic. Or so one thought anyway given Cilic had shown some early competition spark.

And it did turn out to be bit of a cagey affair too but the bottom-line was there was Cilic got no chances to go past. The entire match, in fact, saw Rublev get two chances to break his opponent and broke him both times while himself facing not a single break-point.

In the end, Rublev completed a 6-4, 6-4 victory with those two breaks of serves helping him get past Cilic.

Rublev, who had never made it past the third round at the Miami Masters, will now take on a young talent who has exhibited what he is capable of but with the kind of form the Russian is in, it does look like it could take a lot out of Korda to get past him.

Korda Overcomes Another Clay-Court Specialist

In his second round encounter, Korda had gone in as a favourite against Fabio Fognini and he needed three sets to get past the clay-courter. Two matches later, the American played and took down another clay court specialist, Diego Schwartzman, getting past him in three sets again to carve out a place in the quarterfinal for himself.

The match lasted two hours and 37 minutes, saw three sets had Korda break Schwartzman four times – losing his own serve thrice.

After both players had won a set apiece, things looked to be headed Korda’s way early in the final set when the American broke Schwartzman in the very first game and then held on to his serve throughout the set.

However, Schwartzman warded off another break-point, and when he broke Korda back as the American looked to serve for the match, it looked like his resistance had been broken.

Something got broken soon after but it wasn’t Korda’s resistance. Instead, Schwartzman dropped serve yet again and this time around Korda didn’t repeat any of his previous mistakes, completing a stiff three-set win.

While Rublev isn’t going to be as easy of an opponent, it would also give Korda a chance to test himself against one of the best in the world at the moment.

Rublev v Korda Prediction and Tip

As mentioned earlier, Rublev is arguably one of the best five players and he starts off 1/5 to win it and 4/7 to do that in straight sets. Will go for the latter despite Korda’s obvious talent.

Tip: Rublev to win in straight sets: 4/7 (bet365)
