Ruud Sends Mager Packing
The Buenos Aires Open winner from the previous season, Ruud, kick-started his clay court campaign with a solid second round performance against Gianluca Mager. He defeated his Italian opponent in straight sets, needing just an hour and 10 minutes to complete the victory.
Having received a first round bye, Ruud was off to a slow start when he was broken in the very first game of the opening set but he fought back to level things out at 1-1.
Another break of serve followed in the sixth game and while he missed out on a couple of set-points on his opponent’s serve, Ruud completed a 6-3 win in the first set off the second set-point he got off his own serve.
It became even easier in the second set. Ruud needed five break-points but he did get past Gianluca’s serve in the first game of the set and just as his opponent was looking for opportunities level the proceedings, the Norwegian player broke again to thwart any comeback hopes.
Ruud, who had earlier reached the fourth round at the Australian Open this season will now need to ward off the challenge of one of the players of the future.

Alcaraz Comes Back from Behind
While Alcaraz hadn’t spent as much time on court in his first round win over Nikola Milojevic, he needed to come back from a set down to get past senior pro Feliciano Lopez.
Lopez, who is 22 years older than Alcaraz, overcame a 1-3 deficit in the first set, to break Alcaraz twice in the first set to complete what looked to be an easy win. Which is why it was surprising to see Alcaraz come back so strongly in the second set, goig up 2-0 and then breaking again in the fifth game to helped complete an easy set victory.
The third set proved to be an interesting one in that there were three breaks of serves, all of which came in a row, and in the second half there was nothing. Both players held on and even as Lopez tried his level best to get the serving back on parity it didn’t work out for him.
Ruud v Alcaraz Prediction and Tip
Ruud is a top player on clay but against Alcaraz, in such good form, would be tough to beat. Expecting a three-setter in this one.
Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
