Grigor Dimitrov v Jeremy Chardy Head to Head
There have been five previous matches played between these two players and Dimitrov leads 3-2 on head to head. Their only meeting on clay was also their first ever match in 2011, at the French Open and Chardy had won that in straight sets.

Dimitrov Snuffs Out Struff
It was expected to be a tighter match than it turned out as Dimitrov ended Jan-Lennard Struff’s hopes in the very first round of this competition in straight sets. Dimitrov won 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 18 minutes to win the first match he’s played on clay this season and proceed to the second round.
A semifinalist in this competition in 2018, Dimitrov began the match by dropping his serve in the third game of the opening set but that remained the only time he was broken all match. Very soon he levelled out things with a break back and then made it two breaks in a row to serve it out at 5-3.
In the second set, Dimitrov saved break-points in each of the first three games he served, but then came back strongly to break Struff just the one time he needed to win the set and the match.
Dimitrov had come into this match on the back of successive defeats but he still has a quarterfinal appearance at the Australian Open to take a lot of confidence from.

Chardy Showing Signs of a Late Sparkle
34 years old, Chardy has shown a remarkable turnaround in his fortunes from how things had gone for him last season.
The Frenchman had played in a mere 10 matches all of last year, and won just three of them – and two in the main draws of competition. Since the pandemic break, Chardy played in four tournaments in 2020 and won no main draw match.
Which is why, when Chardy made it to back to back semifinals at the Antalya Open and Murray River Open and then, as a qualifier, reached the quarterfinal of the Rotterdam Open, things looked to have largely turned around for him.
And he has started off this competition on a similar note, having edged out Alexander Bublik in three sets, winning 6-4, 0-6, 7-5 to make it to the second round.
While he plays a much stronger opponent now, Chardy’s form and his opponent’s modest record on clay could make this a keen tussle.
Dimitrov v Chardy Prediction and Tip
Chardy, at 2/1, has tempting odds for his win with 8/11 to win a set being a safer option. Backing that result in this one.
Tip: Chardy to win a set – Yes: 8/11 (bet365)
