Filip Krajinovic v Juan Ignacio Londero Head to Head

While they have never played in the main draw of an ATP event before this, there have been two previous matches between these two played way back in 2014. The first came at the Vincenza Challenger on clay and that was followed by the qualifying round at the US Open.

Both were won by Krajinovic.

Krajinovic Eases Past Injured Basilashvili

After a third round appearance at the Australian Open, Krajinovic has played in just two tournaments before arriving at the Monte-Carlo Masters. He lost his opener at the ATP Doha and then fellow to Lloyd Harris in the third round in Dubai.

In his first round match against Basilashvili, Krajinovic was leading 6-1, 2-0 before his Georgian opponent retired from the match because of injury.

Krajinovic’s win was his first on clay since making the third round at the Italian Open last season where he had also lost his opener at the French Open. And the only previous occasion he did play at this competition was in 2016 when he fell in the very first round.

Can Krajinovic now make it two in two, especially given his opponent for his second round encounter is one who has always loved playing on clay but comes in with a lot of trouble for him.

Londero, a Lucky Loser

Not only is Londero a lucky loser but one to get a direct entry into the second round after it was the second seeded Daniil Medvedev who withdrew from the competition after testing positive for coronavirus.

Londero, therefore, gets another shot after having endured a wretched run all this season including on clay which is his favourite surface.

In fact, coming into this tournament qualifiers, Londero was on a seven-match losing streak that had extended to the end of the last season, where he had lost in the second round at the French Open and the opener at the Parma Challenger which followed.

This year, his only win has come in these qualifiers at the Monte-Carlo Masters, having overcome Mischa Zverev in the first match. He then fell to Dominik Koepfer while returning back into the main draw as a lucky lower following the Medvedev withdrawal.

The sense one gets is it might be difficult for Londero to come through from this.

Krajinovic v Londero Prediction and Tip

Odds of 2/9 for a Krajinovic win seem par for the course and so does a straight-set win. This will be a good chance for Krajinovic to stamp his authority and exhibit he means business.

Tip: Krajinovic to win in straight sets: 8/13 (bet365)
