John Millman v Danilo Petrovic Head to Head

Millman Looking at Clay for Resurrection
For someone who ended the last season on a promising note as Millman did, his start to the 2021 season has been nothing short of abysmal. He has played 11 matches this year and won just three which which includes a run of five straight defeats to kick-start the year.
That’s not the kind of record he would have liked having won his maiden ATP title late last year when he clinched the Nur-Sultan Open.
The one positive to look at for Millman is two of his three wins this year have come on clay. At both, the Cagliari Open and Monte-Carlo Masters, Millman managed to win his opening round match, with victories over Federico Coria and Ugo Humbert, only to lose in the second.
Which, in its own way is a bit of a surprise too given his overall clay court record is quite underwhelming. Last year, for instance, Millman won only one match on clay, and in the season before that, he ended on a 4-7 win-loss record on dirt.
He starts off against a player who has never been ranked better than 137th in the world so that would be bit of a positive.

Petrovic in His Own Personal Struggles
For someone with a career-best ranking of 137th in the world, Petrovic had a solid finish to the previous season when as a lucky loser at the Sardinia Open he made it as far as the semifinal of that tournament.
This year, however, things have flattened out for Petrovic and other than making it as far as the quarterfinal in one of the tournaments on the Challenger circuit, he hasn’t won a match.
That’s right. Other than the two victories at the Split Challenger, Petrovic has lost nine matches of which six have come at the Challenger circuit.
The 29-year-old Serb, who at 6 feet 8 inches is one of the tallest players on the circuit, is a clay court specialist and has won nine of his lower circuit titles on that surface. Which is why while his form has been horrendous this year, playing at home and on his favourite surface could boost his chances in a small way.
Millman v Petrovic Prediction and Tip
This might not be as much of a one-way traffic as it seems on paper given some of the aforementioned reasons. Millman should still prevail but not before the Serb pushes him hard.
Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
