Simona Halep v Sara Sorribes Tormo Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the 2020 French Open where Halep defeated Sorribes Tormo 6-4, 6-0 to move into round two.

A right shoulder issue had led Halep to withdraw from her third round match at the Miami Open earlier this year and she took a nearly-month long break from the game as a result of that.
The Romanian then returned back to the sport in Stuttgart where she had a first round bye but followed that up with two solid performances. She first dispatched the 2019 French Open runnerup Marketa Vondrousova in the second round and then crushed Ekaterina Alexandrova in the following encounter, dropping just nine games across those two matches.
And while she lost to Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinal, the signs overall were positive.
It’s now a matter of getting back into full match fitness for Halep, who had finished the previous season on a 13-1 win-loss record on clay. She starts off against a tricky opposition but one she should able to surmount after a bit of a fight.

Sorribes Tormo Starts Clay with Loss
Despite starting off as a heavy favourite in her opening round match at the Bogota Open earlier this month, Sorribes Tormo was trounced in straight sets by Sara Errani. Errani was a whopping 3/1 entering that match to win it and still managed a 7-5, 7-5 victory.
It was Sorribes Tormo’s first match on clay for the season and thus far, her only one. What’s surprising is Sorribes Tormo is adept on clay and all but one of his ITF level tournament wins have come on dirt.
Which is why even though she takes on a player like Halep here in Madrid, Sorribes Tormo will feel she can hold her own.
That said, the Spaniard doesn’t have the best record at the Madrid Open having registered just two main draw wins over eight seasons of participation. And to then be drawn against Halep first up could mean another tough opener.
Halep v Sorribes Tormo Prediction and Tip
Halep’s return from injury is the only reason we are looking at some sort of a chance for Sorribes Tormo who starts off 4/1 to win this. A good option is the game market, especially when combined with a Halep victory.
