Alex de Minaur v Lloyd Harris Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2019 Japan Open competition which Harris won in three sets including two tie-breakers.

It looked to be one-way traffic for most of the while as Jaume Munar seemed to be on his way to sealing his second round berth. De Minaur, however, made a late surge, turned things around and completed a three-set victory for himself in their opening round match.

Down a set and 2-4 in the second, the Aussie saved two break-points to prevent going 2-5 down and then needed four break-points in the next game to level the proceedings. The set looked to be headed towards a tie-breaker when De Minaur broke at 6-5 to make it a set apiece.

And with the momentum having shifted, a charged-up De Minaur then broke his opponent a couple of times to complete a three-set victory.

This comes on the back of a first round exit at the Monte-Carlo Masters and a second round loss in Barcelona, but the Aussie now has a chance to make it back to back wins on clay for the first time in his career as he takes on a player ranked 54th in the world.

Harris Stuns Dimitrov

It took Harris nearly two and half hours and three sets but he managed to dismantle Grigor Dimitrov in his first round match despite starting out at 2/1 odds to surprise his opponent.

Harris, ranked 54th in the world, has had a more fruitful season than ever, having reached the final of the ATP Dubai after starting out as a qualifier but on clay, he has been found to be a suspect.

He had earlier begun his clay court swing with a first round defeat at the hands of Marco Cecchinato which would have done nothing to stall the view clay isn’t his preferred surface. A win against the world number 17 Dimitrov, however, despite both players losing their serves three times apiece, might fill him with some more confidence than usual.

And now that he is facing another player with similar issues on clay, Harris will back his chances to carve out a surprise third round place in a clay court Masters event.

De Minaur v Harris Prediction and Tip

De Minaur is a favourite at 2/5 but we wouldn’t be discounting Harris after the kind of season he has had and a first round win over the world number 17. Expect Harris to win a set.
