Belinda Bencic v Paula Badosa Head to Head
The only previous meeting between these two players came as recently as the Charleston Open last month where Badosa won in three sets on her way to the semifinal.

She wasn’t the favourite going into her third round match against Ons Jabeur but Bencic, aided by her opponent’s fitness problems, came through in a fighting match.
Jabeur retired from the match in the second set, but not before Bencic had been pushed to a tie-breaker in the first set. Bencic was leading 7-6 (2), 4-3 when her opponent had to call it off because of her injury.
Interestingly enough, there were a total of five break-points in the entire match and not one break of serve for either player, with Bencic take the opening set in a tie-breaker.
Bencic had earlier carved out a straight-set win over Kristina Mladenovic and then needed three sets to get past Bernarda Pera in a thriller. And while Bencic hasn’t been at her best in recent times, a quarterfinal appearance here will come as a pleasant surprise.

Badosa 7-1 after Bizarre Third Round Victory
It’s been a solid season for Badosa, especially on clay where she has won seven of her eight matches played this season. Her only loss had come in the semifinal at the Charleston Open played just two weeks ago and the Spaniard will look to build on from that.
What was interesting to see was Badosa’s win in the previous round, one against Anastasija Sevastova, which took topsy-turviness to another level.
It was Sevastova who got the first break in the opening set, but was then broken back twice to give Badosa a chance to serve for the set. Badosa failed to do so and then failed to win a single point in the ensuing tie-breaker.
Badosa then broke first in the second set, but lost her serve and this was followed by four exchanges of service breaks that took the set into a tie-breaker. Having missed out on two set-points, Badosa then turned a 3-3 score in the tie-breaker to 7-3 in her favour.
And just when one expected a fighting final set to see the match through, Badosa romped home to a win with three successive breaks of serves. She clinched it with her first match-point, winning 6-7 (0), 7-6 (3), 6-0 in two hours and 36 minutes.

Badosa is 8/11 for this while Bencic starts off 11/10 to go through to the semifinal. As mentioned, Bencic’s rhythm hasn’t been at the best but what we like about her at the moment is she is finding a way to win it. Backing the Swiss to make it her fourth in a row here.
