This will be the fourth meeting between the players. All meetings have been on hard courts with Tsitsipas leading the head-to-head 2-1. They met earlier this year at Acapulco and Tsitsipas prevailed in straight sets.

Back-To-Back Masters 1000 Titles on Tsitsipas’ Mind
Stefanos Tsitsipas has been on a excellent run in the 2021 season thus far. Winning both his matches at the ATP Cup, he made it to the final eight at the Australian Open where he defeated world number two Rafael Nadal after being down two sets to love, before a straight sets defeat in the semi-finals at the hands of Daniil Medvedev.
He had a good run at the Rotterdam ATP 500 making the semi-finals before losing to the in-form red hot Andrey Rublev who went on to win his fourth consecutive ATP 500 tournament. Another good run at the Acupulco Open saw the young Greek make the finals and he looked in control against Alexander Zverev up 4-1 in the first set, but a turnaround of events saw the German win in two tight sets.
Tsitsipas again looked good in Miami, before he lost control of his match against Pole Hubert Hurkacz, who eventually went on to win the title.
However, he broke the string of strong runs without a title at Monte Carlo, where he put up a spirited showing all week and especially in the final to defeat Andrey Rublev in straight sets and win his first ever Masters 1000 title, which hopefully set the base for a number of more coveted titles to come for the Greek.
It was another impressive showing at the Barcelona ATP 500 the week after, with straight set wins over the likes of Alex De Minaur and Felix Auger-Aliassime, and the in-form Italian teenager Jannik Sinner. The Greek was up against Rafa Nadal in the title round and even had championship point, but the fighter in Nadal never gave up as he went on to claim his 12th Barcelona title.
Tsitsipas now returns to Madrid where in 2019 he defeated Rafa Nadal on the clay and was a finalist losing out to Novak Djokovic. With a confident run under his belt now, Tsitsipas will believe he has all it takes to win another Masters 1000 here this week.

Finally a Paire Victory
Frenchman Benoit Paire was ranked within the top 20 in the world in in mid-2016. However, inconsistency in both his game and temperament were the reasons for him being unable to capitalize on his innate talent. This saw him fall in the ATP rankings over the 2017-2018 seasons. 2019 was a positive year for Paire, winning two titles on the tour and returning to the top 20 in the rankings.
However, since the pandemic, issues on and off the court have resulted in a drastic fall in Paire’s game, rankings and overall demeanor on the tennis court and on the tour. Coming into the tournament this week, the Frenchman had lost seven consecutive matches, six of which were in opening rounds.
Due to a host of temperament related issues, the Frenchman has been banned from representing his country at the Tokyo Olympics, and racket manufacturer Babolat have issued a statement of their disapproval of Paire’s behavior on the court.
Up against Munich ATP 250 winner from last week Nikoloz Basilashvili, the Frenchman looked in better touch than he has all season long and the Georgian seemed a little fatigue from the victories of last week. Paire capitalized and saw the match through with a 6-4, 7-5 win followed by a ruckus celebration.
Tsitsipas v Paire Prediction and Tip
Both players are currently in very different places with their game and otherwise. Tsitsipas is playing some of the most consistent tennis of his young career and Paire has just won a match after six opening round losses.
Expect a routine Tsitsipas victory here.
