Ash Barty v Paula Badosa Head to Head
Their only previous outing came as recently as the Charleston Open quarterfinal earlier this year and Barty was handed her only defeat on clay this season. Badosa had won 6-4, 6-3 to make the semifinal in that competition where she lost to Veronika Kudermetova.

Barty Quells Kvitova Challenge
It wasn’t straightforward by any stretch but Barty pulled off another win on clay to march into the semifinals. She overcame Petra Kvitova in three sets to register her 10th win in 11 matches on red dirt this year and get that step closer to lifting her fourth title of the season.
Barty, who had earlier tamed Iga Swiatek in straight sets in her previous match, required nearly two hours to defeat Kvitova. She won 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 in match that saw her getting broken twice.
The Aussie was off to a flier as she took a 5-0 lead in the back of successive breaks before Kvitova could even get on board. Barty served it out to love to win the opening set and signal her intentions of making quick work of her opponent.
Kvitova’s experience shone through in the second though as this time it was the Czech who grabbed the first break and a 3-0 lead. Barty composed herself and avoided getting broken after that but failed to level things out as Kvitova made it a set apiece.
The thing saw Barty grab the early break and while she dropped her serve in the fifth game, the Aussie came back to break in the sixth and finish it off her fourth match-point.
Barty will now look to avenge her only clay-court loss this season against an opponent who was ranked 97th only last season.

Badosa First Spanish Semifinalist
By overcoming Belinda Bencic for the second time in a span of less than a month, Badosa became the first Spanish woman to make it this far at the Madrid Open. And she did that in straight sets too, beating her Swiss opponent 6-4, 7-5.
Badosa had earlier made it as far as the semifinal at Charleston, her only previous tournament on clay this season and even there she had beaten Bencic and followed it up with a victory over Barty. It would be interesting to see if she can pull one over the world number one for the second time this season.
What would make that special – other than the fact it’s a world number one we are talking about – is Barty has lost just three matches all season.
And if Badosa can deliver the kind of performance she did against Bencic, she sure will have a chance to push the top seed. She needed an hour and 51 minutes, broke her opponent four times and dropped her serve just twice to carve out that victory.
Barty v Badosa Prediction and Tip
Barty is 2/9 to win this but the fighting prowess of Badosa could make it interesting. Still backing Barty with the win but in a match that could get pushed a little longer.
