Denis Shapovalov v Casper Ruud Head to Head
This will be a first meeting of any kind between Canada’s World No. 14 and in-form Norwegian Casper Ruud, ranked 22 in the world.

Shapovalov Stunned by Bublik in Madrid
Denis Shapovalov, spotting a new look, had looked impeccable in his opening match in Madrid. The Canadian produced a sublime performance that at times had Dusan Lajovic – his opponent – gasping for air in the heat of the afternoon.
However, he fell short in his next match against Kazakhstan’s mercurial man Alexander Bublik. It was a wasted opportunity in itself considering the draw had opened up nicely for him to at least make the quarterfinals.
Shapovalov, though, should be in buoyant mood ahead of his fourth straight appearance at the Italian Open. He reached the semifinals at last year’s edition which was held in the autumn.
Repeating those heroics from last season will mean, Shapovalov registers one upset win after another starting with his opening match against Norways’s in-form 22-year-old Casper Ruud, and is projected to meet Rafael Nadal in the third round.

Ruud in the Form of his Life
At the time of writing, Casper Ruud is one match away from reaching his first-ever Masters 1000 final of his career at the Mutua Madrid Open.
Regardless of Saturday’s outcome in the match against Matteo Berrettini, Ruud will be defending a proud record of reaching three successive semifinals on clay in a Masters tournament when he takes to court in Rome.
Last year’s edition was the starting point, with Ruud defying the odds to reach the last four where he lost to eventual winner Novak Djokovic.
In Monte Carlo he surpassed many people’s expectations as he thwarted Diego Schwartzman and Carreno Busta, before ending Fabio Fognini’s title defense. Once again, he was foiled by the eventual winner, this time Andrey Rublev
Maybe we should watch out for Matteo Berrettini in Madrid if recent history is anything to go by!
Shapovalov v Ruud Prediction and Tip
Ruud will most likely get a day’s rest after his commitment in Madrid. But will that be enough against a freshenedup Shapovalov? Backing the Canadian to claim an upset win seems logical.
