Anastasija Sevastova v Jil Teichmann Head to Head
There has been only one previous meeting between these two players and that came as recently as earlier this year in Adelaide. Teichmann had to claw her way back from a gruelling second set tie-breaker to carve out a three-set win in that quarterfinal match.

Sevastova Makes Madrid Third Round
As a qualifier in Madrid, Sevastova would be rather satisfied with her performance there. She made it through the qualifiers there with wins against Tsvetana Pironkova and Marta Kortyuk and then registered victories over Ana Bogdan and Johanna Konta to enter round three.
The 2017 Madrid semifinalist then took the first set off Paula Badosa in a tie-breaker, lost the second the same way before falling away in the third.
Earlier, she had also made the second round in Charleston, following on from a career-best showing in Miami where she was a losing quarterfinalist.
That result, combined with Sevastova’s overall performances on clay which have seen her win 68 out of the 112 matches she has played on it, makes it a season to watch out for the Latvian.

Teichmann Suffers Drastic Drop in Rankings
Despite having reached the second round in Madrid last week, in a tournament she had never played before, a rejig in the WTA ranking system has caused her to fall from her career-best ranking of 40th in the world to 54th.
Ranking systems aside, however, Teichmann would be reasonably satisfied with the way things have gone this year for now.
At two of the hard-court competitions she has featured in, at the Adelaide International and WTA Dubai, Teichmann made it to the semifinal, with wins against Wang Qiang, Sevastova, Petra Kvitova, Ons Jabeur and Cori Gauff punctuating that effort.
And while she would have loved to go deeper than the second round defeat to Paula Badosa in Madrid, Teichmann will also take heart from her first round result. She had defeated Elina Svitolina after being a set down, making it her third win against a top-10 player.
