Dan Evans v Taylor Fritz Head to Head
They have never faced off on the ATP main tour but there was one meeting between them at the Champaign Challenger of 2015 with Fritz winning that encounter in three sets.

Evans Much Improved in 2021…
…and on clay too!
Evans began this season with his maiden title win, defeating the likes of Borna Coric and Felix Auger-Aliassime en route the victory at the Murray River Open.
A bit of a lull later, Evans then came into his own in what was his best performance ever on clay. A player who has never made it past the first round of French Open and with a 0-5 record in clay court competitions in ATP 1000 Masters before this season wouldn’t have been expected to do much better when he entered the Monte-Carlo Masters earlier last month.
As it turned out, Evans shocked Novak Djokovic and registered victories over Hubert Hurkacz and David Goffin to make it as far as the semifinal there. Later he also entered round three in Madrid where he fell to Alexander Zverev.
Can he now start things off with a win in Rome, making it his first victory at this tournament or will his American opponent trouble him enough?

Fritz on a Three-Match Losing Streak
Much like Evans, Fritz himself isn’t much of a clay-courter and had been in fine fettle coming into the clay swing.
A semifinal appearance in Doha, fourth round in Miami and a third round showing at the Australian Open would have given him some confidence as he entered his first clay court tournament in Cagliari earlier this year.
And Fritz started off well too, defeating Andrej Martin and Aljaz Bedene in the first two rounds of that competition.
Since then, however, Fritz has struggled to get going and lost three matches in a row on clay. A loss to Lorenzo Sonego in Cagliari was followed by opening defeats at the hands of Roberto Bautista-Agut and Albert Ramos-Vinolas at Monte-Carlo and Madrid Masters.
And while he now takes on a player who is probably not as consistent on clay as the aforementioned two, Fritz will know he would have a task on his hands coming into this one.
Evans v Fritz Prediction and Tip
Evans is a favourite at 4/6 while Fritz rightly starts off at 6/5. Backing Evans to carve out a victory here, but will we see a third set in this one? A decent possibility of that.
Tip: Three sets in the match: 5/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
