Iga Swiatek v Cori Gauff Head to Head

Swiatek and Gauff have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Swiatek Sizzles against Svitolina

While Swiatek was stretched to a rare three-setter by Barbora Krejcikova in her third round match having gotten out at the same stage of the Madrid Open last week too, she looked to have regained her form in the quarterfinals.

The Pole overcame Elina Svitolina in straight sets to seal her semifinal berth, a match she will play later in the day.

Needing an hour and 38 minutes, Swiatek registered a 6-2, 7-5 victory over her Ukrainian opponent as she managed to take the upper hand from the get go and rarely found the going difficult.

After racing through the first set with two breaks of serves to her name, Swiatek fell a break behind in the third game of the second only to break back in the very next game.

This repeated in the sixth and seventh game, but in the reverse, but just as it seemed like the match was headed into a second set tie-breaker, Swiatek carved out Svitlina’s serve at 6-5, winning it to to 15 and completing the straight-set dazzle.

She now takes on a fellow teenager and a talented one at that.

Gauff Comes Through after Barty Injury

World number one Ash Barty faced ‘severe pain’ in her arm and was forced to retire from her Rome Open quarterfinal against Gauff to allow her American opponent a maiden entry into the semifinal of a WTA 1000 or better event.

Gauff was down 4-6, 1-2 before Barty opted out of the match, throwing her participation at the French Open in jeopardy. The American, on the other hand, will make her top 30 debut next week as a result of this, becoming one of the youngest players in the history of tennis to do so.

She had earlier come through against two big-ticket players to set up this meeting with the world number, defeating Aryna Sabalenka and Maria Sakkari in back to back matches.

Having earlier gotten knocked out in round one in Madrid, Gauff now has a chance to take advantage of having had some extra rest time as opposed to Swiatek who will be playing her second singles match of the day. Can the American taken advantage of this?

Swiatek v Gauff Prediction and Tip

Under normal circumstances, we wouldn’t have batted an eyelid and had Swiatek as a favourite to win in straight sets but given the circumstances of this week with delays and form, we are going with Gauff to win a set.
