Nadia Podoroska v Timea Babos Head to Head

The only previous occasion these two players faced off in a competitive encounter was in the 2016 Florianopolis Open and Babos had won that first round match in three sets.

Podoroska Kick-Started Clay Campaign Last Week

A player known for her performances on clay, Podoroska featured in her first tournament on this surface for the season last week at the Italian Open. And she did rather well in reaching the third round especially given how she overcame Serena Williams to get there.

Starting out in the first round, the 44th-ranked Podoroska overcame a set deficit against Laura Siegemund to overcome her in a three-setter. The real test, however, came against Serena in the second.

True, Serena was coming off a longish layoff and playing her first match on clay since last year’s French Open but take nothing away from the Argentine who delivered a 7-6 (6), 7-5 win.

Serena did put up a fight, first preventing Podoroska from serving for the first set at 5-4 and then coming back from 3-6 down in the tie-breaker to level it at 6-6 but it was Podoroska who kept her nerve and came through.

In the third round, however, Podoroska fell to Petra Martic in a three-setter.

Babos 0-2 on Clay This Season

Once ranked 25th in the world, Babos has fallen to outside the top 100 and that has to do with her poor singles form. This season, for instance, Babos has won just three main draw matches while losing quite a few of the others.

Switching over to clay in Charleston, Babos was sent packing in the very first round by Marie Bouzkova there and given she didn’t qualify directly for any of the other competitions, opted to participate in the ITF tournament in La Bisbal.

And even there, Babos didn’t survive her first round match against the 263rd-ranked Jessica Pieri, losing in three.

Against Podoroska, things could even more difficult as Babos faces her third successive defeat on clay.

Podoroska v Babos Prediction and Tip

There’s not much to think on this. In-form Podoroska has had a few days off since her Martic defeat, while Babos is gasping for form on clay.
