Daniil Medvedev v Alexander Bublik Head To Head
Their only meeting was at St.Petersburg in 2016 and Medvedev prevailed in straight sets.

Second Seed But Clay Remains The Challenge
Daniil Medvedev ended 2020 on a strong note with victories at the Paris Masters and the ATP Tour Finals in London. This was followed by an unbeaten run at the ATP Cup and a strong run at the Australian Open before a somewhat disappointing straight sets loss to world number one Novak Djokovic.
A first round loss at the ATP 500 in Rotterdam to Dusan Lajovic made one wonder if we were going to see a decline in form from Medvedev, similar to mid 2020. But, the trend seemed to have been stalled over at Marseille.
The Russian looked good all week setting up a clinical win against rising Italian Jannik Sinner and in a tight final against French doubles specialist Pierre- Hugues Herbert, he held his ground well to register another title with a close three set win. A quarter-final loss to Roberto Bautista Agut ended his indoor and hard court season for now at Miami and over to the surface that has not treated him well, i.e. clay.
While a bout of Covid-19 kept him out of Monte Carlo and Barcelona, Medvedev won his first ever match at Madrid but lost in the second round. An opening round loss at Rome followed and the Russian is headed to Roland Garros in search of his first win at the clay slam.
While him being seeded second is a large contributor to Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer all being in the same half of the draw at a major (a rare phenomenon), the expectations from him remain low as his half of the draw remains open to all of the Next Gen.

Bublik Displaying Talent But Indifferent Clay Season
The 23-year-old charismatic Alexander Bublik is yet to win a title on the tour, but has reached four finals, two of which were early this year. Beginning the year in Antalya, Bublik won four matches on the trot to reach the final. However, an injury forced him to withdraw from the title clash after just two games in the match, handing Alex Di Minaur his fourth career title.
The Kazakh reached his second final of the year in Singapore in February, but remained title-less after going down to Australia’s Alexei Popyrin in a three-set final.
Despite pulling off an impressive win against Alexander Zverev in Rotterdam, it was an early departure for Bublik and so was the case in Doha and Dubai, including a three-set loss to Jannik Sinner after wining the first set 6-2.
Bublik looked good at the Miami Masters and put up a strong showing in the fourth round against American Taylor Fritz to come back after losing the first set and pulling off a win to put him in the final eight. However, he ran into Jannik Sinner again who was on a run of sorts and prevailed in straight sets.
Although he is ranked a career-high of number 37 in the world, it has been an indifferent clay season for the Kazakh. Although he made the final eight at Madrid beating the likes of Marton Fucsovics, Denis Shapovalo and Aslan Karatsev en route, he only won one match combined out of all of Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Estoril and Rome.
Bublik will be looking for a better showing on clay here in Paris.
Medvedev v Bublik Prediction and Tip
This could just be the most intriguing of the opening round matches on the men’s side given Medvedev’s dislike for clay and Bublik’s talent and decent form recently, despite being unpredictable.
Expect a tight battle, but the number two seed should prevail in four sets.
