Carlos Alcaraz v Nikoloz Basilashvili Head to Head
Alcaraz and Basilashvili have not played each other before this. Their second-round meeting at the French Open will be their first official match on tour.

Qualifier Alcaraz Punching Above His Weight
Since losing in the second round of the Madrid Masters to his hero Rafael Nadal, the 18-year-old phenom Carlos Alcaraz has won nine straight matches – five of those coming at the Oeiras Challenger prior to Roland Garros, where he clinched his fourth Challenger title.
Alcaraz then dropped a measly 11 games spread across six sets in three matches to qualify for Roland Garros for the first time in his career. He celebrated a top 100 debut on the eve of the tournament.
On his main draw debut on Monday, Alcaraz seized the spotlight with a fearless mentality. Against countryman Bernabe Zapata Miralles, the young Spaniard played in his toughest match of the last fortnight but was eked out a four-set win.
Alcaraz overcame a second-set wobble, and some untimely double faults to register a 6-3 2-6 6-1 7-6 in just over three hours. Zapata Miralles was also coming off a title win this clay swing, but he just fell short in his quest to reach the second round.
It was Alcaraz who was dictating the points from the baseline, and his winners’ count (41) was twice as many as compared to his compatriot. He also saved six out of 12 breakpoints.

Basilashvili Snaps Three-match Losing Streak
Losing streaks are synonymous when we talk of Nikoloz Basilashvili. This latest one pre-Roland Garros had shrouded the Georgian’s chances into the gloom.
Basilashvili captured the second title of his terrific 2021 season at the BMW Open in Munich, and remarkably without the loss of a set. But he did not win a match after that until Monday’s first-round win at the French Open.
He had lost three on the trot, including the eyebrow-raising first-rounder against Benoit Paire in Madrid. However, the unpredictable Georgian found his footing against Dusan Lajovic. The Serbian was on a dwindling run of results this clay swing and his confidence was torn to shreds.
Basilasahvili came through in four sets despite dropping the third set 6-0. The match itself was not a real spectacle. There were 14 breaks between them (8 of them converted decisively by Basilashvili), and both players failed to hit the 60% mark on first serves.
But regardless of the effectiveness of his service, the World No. 31 did not look remotely close to falling.
Alcaraz v Basilashvili Prediction and Tip
As expected Alacaraz enters this round as the bookies’ favorite, which is a bit surprising considering he is playing against a seasoned pro on the main tour. But a lot will depend on Basilashvili’s headspace. The Georgian is an excellent shotmaker when his game is on, and he should be inspired by what is at stake here.
