Ekaterina Alexandrova v Anna Kalinskaya Head to Head

There has been one main draw match on the WTA level before this and they have also faced off on two other occasions in the qualifiers of a WTA event and another at an ITF competition. Alexandrova has won each time without dropping a set.

Alexandrova Hoping to Improve on Middling Form

Alexandrova’s best ever ranking is 25th but this season she has moved between 32nd and 34th thanks to her consistent but hardly eye-catching form.

The Russian did start off well in 2021 with a third round appearance at the Abu Dhabi Open and semifinal at the Gippsland Trophy but since then she hasn’t been able to maintain those kind of levels again.

She did make the third round at Australian Open and had a third round in Rome as well but other than that her results haven’t gone berserk.

Which is why this switch to grass would be interesting to watch. It’s a surface Alexandrova hasn’t mastered as well as hard court – on which all four of her titles have come – but she does have a quarterfinal at Eastbourne, and another at Rosmalen in 2019.

Can she repeat that showing here?

Kalinskaya Continues to Hover Around the 100ish Mark

Kalinskaya’s career-best ranking of 96 came in 2019 but since then her form has slowly but steadily gone southward.

There have been those rare moments of brilliance, those odd tournaments like the one in Monterrey earlier this year where Kalinskaya probably finds some of her belief to compete at this level but it is typically followed by things not going her way.

At Monterrey, the Russian qualified for the tournament before defeating Nadia Podoroska and Nina Stojanovic in straight sets to reach the quarterfinal. And that was followed by a third round in Miami, but once she switched over to clay Kalinskaya struggled again.

In the five tournaments she played, including an ITF-based one, she won just two opening round matches.

On grass, Kalinskaya has featured in a few tournament qualifiers including at Wimbledon and at other tournaments but never won a match in the main draw. Can she now go that one step further?

Alexandrova v Kalinskaya Prediction and Tip

While Alexandrova is 1/3 to win this, what needs to be noted is she will be playing in her first match on grass in a while – which is the case with Kalinskaya too – so that could even things out a little more.
