Alex de Minaur v John Millman Head to Head

There have been two previous matches between these two Aussies and de Minaur has won both. The first of these matches came at the 2019 Zhuhai Open while their latest meeting came earlier this year in Rotterdam, with de Minaur having not dropped a set.

Millman Shock for Opelka

It’s been a strange season for Millman so far. In all five knockout tournaments he featured in to kick-start 2021, the Aussie lost in the first round.

And in the seven competitions Millman played in following that, he has managed to win that opening round but gone beyond just once – and that was thanks to his opponent’s withdrawal.

This first round win here at Queen’s Club was his seventh such first round win, and it came in a match that turned out to be a ripper.

It lasted two hours and 45 minutes in the end and saw Opelka come back from a set and break down in the second to serve for the match at 5-4 in the final set. Millman fought back, breaking the American in the very next game and then saved two match-points in the ensuing tie-breaker before sealing off the victory off the first match-point he got.

Incidentally Millman had gone into the match 2/1 to win it, overturning those odds in dramatic fashion against the heavy-serving Opelka.

With that kind of confidence under his belt, Millman will give himself a shot here.

De Minaur Needs Three against Djere

Having made it to the quarterfinal at the Stuttgart Open last week, de Minaur made a slow start against Laslo Djere in his opener here at the Queen’s Club tournament here.

De Minaur, who was 1/10 to win this, needed two hours and six minutes to get past Djere, winning 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to seal his berth against his countryman.

In a match that had an unusually high, nine breaks of serves, de Minaur had to endured a whopping 10 aces from his opponent to his own one. Down a set, de Minaur then saved two break-points in the second, before trading breaks in the fourth and fifth games.

It was a decisive break in the sixth game of the set that helped him clinch the equaliser before a similar sequence of events ensured his scrappy win.

De Minaur’s record against Millman and his overall results this season should ensure he starts off with a lot of confidence for this one.

de Minaur v Millman Prediction and Tip

No prizes for guessing de Minaur is a whopping favourite to win this at 3/10 and is 4/5 to do that in straight sets. Backing that result.
