Barty Hoping to Shrug Injury Away

There are question-marks surrounding Barty’s injury issues which had earlier forced her to pull out of her second round match at French Open. She had earlier also retired from her quarterfinal in Rome despite having won the first set against Cori Gauff.

Barty now returns to the tournament where she had reached the fourth round the last time it was played in 2019. That turned out to be Barty’s best performance at Wimbledon but as the world number one she would like to go deeper than that for starters.

Not that it is any indicator of Barty’s performances on grass though.

That’s because before that Wimbledon appearance in 2019 Barty had last played on grass in Birmingham and went on to win that title without dropping a set. Barty also has a Nottingham Open title from 2018 and another Birmingham Open runnerup trophy that very season.

So if she can keep up with her fitness, Barty shouldn’t have too many worries here for starters despite having played no matches on grass in the lead-up to Wimbledon.

Navarro Continues with Farewell Season

Around a year ago, Navarro was diagnosed with a form of cancer but after multiple chemo-therapy sessions, she has finally been able to beat off the infection and returned to play what is her last season on the tour.

Navarro featured in the first round at French Open in what was her only match of the year so far and nearly pulled off a big shock as she took the first set off Sloane Stephens in her opener.

Unfortunately for the Spaniard, she was unable to continue in the same vein and lost steam and the match.

The Spaniard will come into this match knowing fully well things will get tougher than last time when she faces the world number one but her advantage lies in her opponent’s fitness concerns. Can she take full toll?

Barty v Navarro Prediction and Tip

The fact she did not play a single match on grass in the lead-up to Wimbledon but has returned to feature in this tournament could mean two things – she is physically fit but not very match fit. Which means while Barty should still win this, we could see some fight from her opponent.
