Garbine Muguruza v Fiona Ferro Head to Head

Their only previous outing came at the 2018 French Open where Muguruza defeated Ferro in straight sets to move into the third round.

Muguruza Hoping to Recapture Hard Court Form

She was in fine fettle during the hard court swing but an injury looked to have pulled Muguruza back a little.

Having begun the season with three tournament finals to her name on hard courts, Muguruza won the WTA Dubai title. Things were looking quite bright for the former Wimbledon and French Open winner but a third round loss at Miami and a left knee injury in Charleston turned things around for her.

Muguruza then failed to get past Elina Svitolina in the third round in Rome but more vitally she was shocked in the first round at Roland-Garros, losing to Marta Kostyuk 6-1, 6-4.

In her only grass court competition so far for the season Muguruza has had mixed results. She would be chuffed about her performances in the first two rounds against Sorana Cirstea and Elena Rybakina as she defeated both in straight sets but against Alize Cornet, the Spaniard fell to a three set defeat after being a set up.

It’s the kind of inconsistency that looked to have gone away from Muguruza’s game but seems to have made bit of a return. Can she overturn that at Wimbledon?

Ferro 0-4 on Grass

It’s not the kind of record Ferro would enjoy having but having played four matches in main draws of grass court tournaments, the Frenchwoman has lost them all.

One of those matches came earlier this season at Birmingham Open where she lost to countrywoman Kristina Mladenovic and that was followed by a qualifying round at Eastbourne last week where Ferro fell to Vera Zvonareva – this one in straight sets.

What Ferro needs is to emulate some of her form from the hard court season earlier this year when she entered round three at Australian Open and followed that up with a semifinal appearance at Lyon.

Unfortunately for her, she wasn’t quite as consistent on clay and the pivot towards grass has been even worse.

Which is why despite Muguruza not being in the best of form, it seems difficult to have Ferro take any kind of an advantage.

Muguruza v Ferro Prediction and Tip

A straight-set win for Muguruza looks the most likely of results here as she aims to return back to her best.
