Serena’s Solid Chance of Number 24

Since returning back to the sport from her maternity break, Serena has reached four Grand Slam finals but won none. And at other times, it has looked more and more difficult for her to get to that elusive 24th title but for a change, the seventh seed should have more than a narrow chance.

With Ash Barty and Simona Halep still struggling with fitness, Naomi Osaka having withdrawn from the competition and Sofia Kenin and Bianca Andreescu struggling for form, Serena’s chances of going the distance have risen drastically.

The only trouble Serena could face is her lack of match time on grass.

Unlike some of the other players, the seven-time Wimbledon winner hasn’t played any grass court tune-up tournaments this year, and last took to court at French Open.

The American did look a lot fitter when she featured at Australian Open earlier this season though and on a surface she has always loved playing, Serena starts off a second favourite to win the title and a huge favourite to demolish her opening round opponent in this one.

Sasnovich Has Made No Major Strides This Year

Once ranked 30th in the world, Sasnovich has currently fallen to 100th in the world at the moment and one can see why.

In this very season, Sasnovich has barely won any matches in main draws of competitions – eight wins spread across 10 tournaments – and comes into Wimbledon with just a qualifier loss on the grass court of German Open to show.

In fact, the last time Sasnovich won a match on grass was way back in 2018 when form and fitness were on her side and the Belarusian had made it as far as the fourth round at Wimbledon.

It had included a shock win over Petra Kvitova but given the way things have gone for her in recent times, it looks highly unlikely she would be able to recreate that kind of magic in the first round here.

Williams v Sasnovich Prediction and Tip

Despite Serena having not played any match since French Open, she would be a huge favourite on grass and one to win it in straight sets. The games handicap market looks a good bet for this.
