Sofia Kenin v Madison Brengle Head to Head

There has been just one previous match between these two players and it had come in the first round at the 2018 US Open. Kenin looked to have taken a commanding position by bagelling her opponent in the first but Brengle came back to push the match into the decider where Kenin needed a tie-breaker to come through.

Kenin Packs a Punch against Wang

Chinese teenager Xinyu Wang had made it to the main draw with three straight-set wins in the qualifiers but Kenin eased past her to seal her second round berth.

Kenin, who was playing her first match on grass since her second round exit at the 2019 Wimbledon, needed an hour and four minutes to crash the Wang party. She won 6-4, 6-2 to emulate her previous best in this tournament.

The first set was bit of a gritty affair as the pair held serve till the fourth game before Kenin got the breakthrough she needed. Later in the set, Kenin faced her only break-point of the encounter but held on before serving out the set.

With Kenin having found her rhythm and got used to the courts, the second set turned out to be an easier run for the American. It went on serve till 2-2 much like in the opening set but once Kenin broke in the fifth game there was no looking back.

Another break of serve followed soon after before Kenin served it out, clinching the match off her third match-point.

Brengle Bears with McHale Fight

31-year-old Brengle has been around on the tour for a while but has never gone beyond the third round at Wimbledon. In fact the American has featured in the main draw at Wimbledon just six times including this year, and she might have played one of her most thrilling matches in this tournament.

Taking on fellow American Christina McHale in the first round after having not won a single main draw match encounter on grass this season before that, Brengle frittered away an early break to lose the first set and then then fell 3-5 behind in the second.

McHale had a chance to serve out the match but a stunning turnaround saw Brengle break her opponent two times in a row and force a third set.

In the decider, Brengle was down 4-5 yet again and this time around saved four match-points to break back. She fell another break down at 7-7 but didn’t allow her opponent to serve out the match before breaking McHale for the second time in a row to claim a stunning victory in two hours and 42 minutes.

The question is whether she will have a lot left in her tank going up against the world number six?

Kenin v Brengle Prediction and Tip

Kenin starts off a favourite at 1/2 to win this but by the looks of things these odds represent the match to be a lot closer than what the difference in their rankings suggest. We believe Kenin shouldn’t have too many worries and at 1/2 we are getting great returns for her win.
