Cristian Garin v Marc Polmans Head to Head
Garin leads Polmans 1-0, with their last meeting being the 2020 French Open second round. The Chilean won that match in four sets.

Garin Survives a Five-Set Thriller in the Opener
25-year-old Cristian Garin had to work really hard to win the first Wimbledon main draw match of his career. It took him three hours and 16 minutes to do something that he couldn’t quite achieve in his last three editions – reaching the second round.
Garin beat the Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles 6-7(6), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 to set up the clash with Polmans. By the looks of it, the Chilean looks primed to go even further now.
He arrived in London on the back of a stellar clay season consisting fourth-round appearance in the French Open and a title run in his home tournament of ATP Santiago. Garin also enjoyed a good run in the Madrid Masters where he was a quarterfinalist after beating the likes of Fernando Verdasco and Daniil Medvedev.
That said, all of this success came on clay – something that has been the case since the beginning of his career. Except for one event, every single final that he has ever reached on the ITF, Challenger, or ATP Circuits has been in a clay tournament.
But here in Wimbledon, being placed in a relatively comfortable bracket, Garin has got an excellent opportunity to build some foundation on grass courts too. Plus, he is the current World No. 20 and that is not something that you achieve if you are not adaptable and versatile across different surfaces.

Polmans Delivers his Best Wimbledon Run
World No. 154 Marc Polmans started as a qualifier here in Wimbledon – just like he has been doing in his last three appearances. But just like Garin, the Aussie too has achieved something brilliant – making it to the main draw and winning his first-round match.
Polmans met Lu Yen-Hsun in the opener and beat the Taiwanese tennis player 6-2, 7-5, 4-6. 6-1, in two and a half hours.
Having spent the majority of the 2021 season on Challenger circuits (with not a lot to show for), this second-round feat in London is his best run of the year. The last time he came close to a run like this was in the Australian Open where he fell in the opener to Marton Fucsovics.
Polmans most recently played in a couple of Challenger events in Nottingham but couldn’t make it past the first round.
Garin v Polmans Prediction and Tip
Garin is more than likely to win this match, given his overall form and momentum. However, considering the fact that he is not that well-versed with grass, it may take another marathon game to win here.
