Elina Svitolina v Magda Linette Head to Head

Both of their previous meetings came on clay, 2017 French Open and 2020 Strasbourg, and Svitolina won both of them in straight sets.

Svitolina Stretched by van Uytvanck

Form hasn’t been Svitolina’s best companion in recent times and that was nearly on display yet again when the world number five was stretched to three sets in her opening round match.

Alison van Uytvanck snuck through Svitolina’s defences and won the second set by breaking her twice but that wasn’t the only issue the Ukrainian faced. Svitolina was broken a total of five times in the match, and only won as she broke her opponent’s serve on six different occasions in the encounter.

Where Svitolina seemed to struggle was with her unforced error count which read 27, the same as her opponent.

Earlier this season, Svitolina had lost her opener in Berlin and then fallen in the second round at Eastbourne with her only previous win on grass in 2021 coming against Paula Badosa.

With a fourth round appearance at Australian Open and having gotten knocked out in the third at French Open, the 2019 semifinalist would like to do a lot better here than she has all season on grass.

Linette Sends Anisimova Packing

This opening round match looked to be going according to script when Amanda Anisimova, who was a heavy favourite in this encounter, clinched the first set with two breaks of serves from the six break-points she won.

Linette, however, found an extra gear to her game from somewhere and went on to break her American opponent a whopping seven more times to carve out a 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory in an hour and 43 minutes.

With this win, Linette is now a step away from emulating her best ever showing at Wimbledon which had come the last time this tournament was held.

Against Svitolina, Linette will have to do something she has done only once before this – beaten a top-five player. That win had come against Ash Barty earlier this year but even that was down to her opponent retiring from it.

Difficult task but given Svitolina’s form it might be lesser so than usual.

Svitolina v Linette Prediction and Tip

On paper this seems to be a one-sided encounter in favour of Svitolina who starts off 2/5 to win but it looks like it would be anything that. Banking on Linette to take Svitolina to the cleaners and win at least a set.

Tip: Linette to win a set: 4/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
