2019 Wimbledon Semi-Finalist Seeks Another Deep Run

World No. 10 Roberto Bautista Agut had a strong run in the last edition of Wimbledon in 2019. Having never won more than three matches in his previous five appearances at the Championships, the Spaniard won five in a row to reach his only major semifinal, before bowing out to eventual champion Novak Djokovic.

Bautista Agut started well this year with finals in Montpellier and Doha and semis at Miami, but then had an unimpressive run on clay followed by a weak build- up on grass at Halle and Mallorca, only winning one match in all on grass.

The Spaniard had a tight opener here being pushed to four sets by Aussie veteran John Millman, before he got to the third round edging out young Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic in a five-setter. A battle of grit against German Dominik Koepfer followed, where Agut prevailed in three tight sets.

With two days before Manic Monday, Agut will be aware that he needs to up the level he is playing at as the competition only gets more challenging here on.

Shapovalov Convincing In Win Against Murray

Denis Shapovalov got a free pass to his first Round of 32 at Wimbledon after his second round opponent Pablo Andujar of Spain pulled out of the tournament with a rib injury.

The Canadian was on Center Court for the first time in his career in the round of 32 as he played Briton former world number one and two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray.

The Canadian was off to a strong start and looked like running away with the first set up 5-2, but the veteran Murray fought back to break for 4-5 and the Canadian had a long game ahead of him as he tried to close the first set. After an hour long set, Shapovalov prevailed 6-4 in the first.

Shapovalov maintained a good level for the next two sets as the Murray challenge waned and the young Canadian prevailed 6-2,6-2 in the next two sets, ending a spirited Andy Murray fight at the 2021 Wimbledon.

Into the second week of a major for only the second time in his career, Shapovalov will be looking at a strong run next week at the back of the good form from today.

Agut v Shapovalov Prediction and Tip

This promises to be an exciting contest between the gritty Agut and the flair of Shapovalov. While Agut has the experience of latter stages of majors, the Canadian has increased in maturity and looked in excellent touch against Murray, a win that would have given him plenty of confidence.

Expect a tight match with Shapovalov prevailing in a four setter.
