World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty returned to the fourth round at Wimbledon with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Czech Republic’s Katerina Siniakova on Saturday.

The Australian broke her opponent four times, struck eight aces and 26 winners to take the contest in an hour and 37 minutes.

The 2019 French Open champion, who was beaten in the quarterfinals of the 2021 Australian Open and had to retire from the second round of this year’s French Open due to a hip injury, is into the Round of 16 at Wimbledon for the second time.

Barty was beaten by the United States’ Alison Riske in the fourth round in the last edition.

The 25-year-old, who won the Miami Open title and finished runner-up at the Madrid Open this year, had needed three sets to beat Carla Suárez Navarro in the opening round on Tuesday.

The 6-1, 6-7 (1-7), 6-1 win over the Spaniard was followed by a 6-4, 6-3 win over Russia’s Anna Blinkova.

An 11-time winner on the tour, Barty also won the Yarra Valley Classic and the Stuttgart Open this year. She will now be aiming for a first quarterfinal berth at the All England Club.

Krejcikova Extends Winning Streak to 15 Matches

French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova extended her winning streak to 15 matches as she edged past Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova on Saturday to reach the fourth round at Wimbledon.

The 14th seed making her singles debut at Wimbledon this year didn’t have much trouble in winning the first two rounds, but needed two hours and 31 minutes to beat the Latvian 7-6 (7-1), 3-6, 7-5 on Saturday.

Ranked No. 17th in the world, the Czech has not lost a match since losing to Iga Swiatek in the third round of the Italian Open. She won five in a row to clinch her maiden WTA title in Strasbourg and then won all seven of her matches at Roland Garros, to win her first Grand Slam singles title.

A 2018 Wimbledon doubles champion with partner Katerina Siniakova, Krejcikova also won the French Open doubles crown with Siniakova this year for the pair’s third Grand Slam title together.

Saturday’s match that had very little to choose between the two players, with Krejcikova winning 110 points, just two more than Sevastova. Both players broke each other’s serve four times, but it was the 25-year-old Czech who won the crucial moments. She hit 44 winners bit also made 57 unforced errors compared to Sevastova’s 27 winners and 31 unforced errors.

Krejcikova, who beat Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova for the French Open crown, had begun her Wimbledon campaign with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Denmark’s Clara Tauson. In her next match, the Czech player knocked out Germany’s Andrea Petkovic 7-5, 6-4.

Krejcikova, who is in the form of her life, had also reached the final of the WTA 1000 in Dubai this year, but finished runner-up to Garbine Muguruza.

Barty v Krejcikova Prediction and Tip

Given Krejcikova’s form it seems even the World No. 1 will have her task cut out in the next round. Expect this to be a cracking contest with Barty winning in three.
