Ramos-Vinolas in the Middle of a Slump

Ramos-Vinolas won his third senior career title in May, when he beat Cameron Norrie on a third set tie-break to win the Estoril Open.

That was his second final of the year, having finished runner-up to Juan-Manuel  Cerundolo of Argentina in Cordoba back in February. He went on to reach the semi-finals in Buenos Aires the week after that.

Results though since Portugal have been very disappointing.

After winning his first round match at the Madrid Open, Ramos-Vinolas has since lost six in a row, including first-round defeats at Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

He had a first-round bye in Hamburg, but he will be aware that the man who started that losing sequence was Delbonis.

Delbonis Continues Consistent Run This Season

The 30-year old Argentine has not made a fianl since winning the second of his senior career titles in Morocco in 2016, but there have been signs that he is getting back towards his best form in 2021,

He made the semi-finals in Santiago, reached the third round of the Madrid Masters, and then, in Rome, having come through qualifying, reached the last eight.

Another semi-final followed in Serbia, and then, at the French Open, he reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career.

Beaten by Andrey Rubkv in the first round in Wimbledon, his opening match in Hamburg was against the Chinese qualifier Zhizhan Zang, currently ranked 161st in the world.

Delbonis begam strongly, breezing through the first se for the loss of just one game.

But Zhang fought back in the second set as the match became increasingly scrappy, and, after several dropped serves apiece, it was he who forced the decisive break to take the match into a third set.

Delbonis came under pressure on hs own serve when he faced two break points, but he saved them both, and then broke his opponent next game.

His Chinese opponent did not get another chance after that, as Delbonis was almost flawless on serve for the rest of the match.

Ramos-Vinolas v Delbonis Prediction and Tip

Although the Spaniard is the higher ranked player, he is in the middle of a long, run of poor form,. and Delbonis tends to get the better of things when these two meet. The Argentine is tipped to extend that record further.
