Barbora Krejcikova v Ysaline Bonaventure Head to Head

This will be their second meeting on the tour, with the last one taking place in Prague itself in 2016. Back then, the duo met in the qualifiers where Krejcikova prevailed with 1-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Business as Usual for Krejcikova

Current French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova kicked off her home tournament with a clinical 6-2, 6-3 win against the Bulgarian qualifier Isabella Shinikova. Seeded number two for the tournament, the Czech’s path to the cup is all but clear with other top seeds already out of the competition.

Given the kind of season that Krejcikova has had so far, it would not be surprising if she does end up winning yet another title. At the moment, she ranks #2 on the doubles circuit and #13 on the singles, courtesy of her two singles and three doubles titles in 2021.

Even though a majority of those titles may have come on clay courts, the 25-year-old has an equally formidable pedigree in hard court tournaments.

In addition to being a three-time Australian Open Mixed Doubles champion, she was also the runner-up in WTA Dubai this season, defeating the likes of Maria Sakkar, Jelena Ostapenko, and Svetlana Kuznetsova along the way.

At the moment, her win-loss tally stands at 30-10 while in the last three tournaments alone, she managed to reach 15-1.

Bonaventure Dispatches Baines

Ysaline Bonaventure is off to a good start here in Prague as she moved past the British Naiktha Baines with 6-3, 6-2.

She is coming off fresh from a quarterfinal appearance in the Hamburg European Open last week, beating Astra Sharma and Bernarda Pera along the way. Even though she ultimately lost to Andrea Petkovic, that marked her best run on the WTA Tour since reaching the second round of the US Open last year.

Up until last week, the 127-ranked player was beaten mainly in the early/qualifying rounds. A switch to ITF and Challenger tier tournaments did not help out either as she couldn’t make it deep in any of the events.

Krejcikova v Bonaventure Prediction and Tip

The Czech has seen her fair share of losses this season, few of which have come at the hands of rather surprising opponents. While the precedent is set for Bonaventure to deliver the upset, it is hard to imagine her doing so.

Expect Krejcikova to reach the quarters
