Casper Ruud v Federico Coria Head to Head

This will be a first tour-level meeting between the two. They have met twice before at qualifying and lower levels, with Coria winning both of them.

Ruud Into His Second Final in 2021

The brief grass spell may not have been to his liking, but back on clay, Casper Ruud has looked in cruise control. The surface always brings the best out of the Norwegian and he has shown that in Bastad, reaching the final without much fuss.

This will be a second final for Ruud this year, following the title success at the Geneva Open where he defeated Denis Shapovalov in the summit clash.

Ruud, who has had to win just two matches en route the final in Bastad, dominated the semifinal against Roberto Carballes Baena on Saturday, racing to a 6-1, 6-4 win in just 79 minutes. He won 76% first serve points and broke the Spaniard five times in the match to advance to a fifth career final.

The previous four finals have all been on clay and in ATP 250 events, with the Norwegian winning two and losing two.

The 22-year-old, who had a first-round bye, had begun the tournament with a 6-0, 6-2 rout of Danish teenager Holger Vitus Nodskov Rune in the Round of 16 and then got a free pass to the semis after getting a walkover from his quarterfinal opponent Henri Laaksonen.

Ruud’s been one of the most dominant players on clay this year and a 19-5 record on the surface is a testament to it. What’s been even more impressive is his ability to lift his game in big tournaments, he was a semifinalist in Monte-Carlo and Madrid, and will look to add to his 2020 Buenos Aires and 2021 Geneva titles on Sunday.

Coria Into a Maiden Final

Not quite in Guillermo Coria’s league yet, but Federico Coria would have certainly made his brother proud after reaching a maiden ATP final on Saturday. Coria hustled past Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann in the semifinal, handing the German a 6-2, 6-1 drubbing.

Coria didn’t face a single break point in the match, but broke his opponent on five occasions to wrap up the match in 72 minutes and keep his stunning form in the tournament going.

The 29-year-old had got the biggest win of his career in the quarterfinal when he upset the World No. 18 Cristian Garin in three. Currently at a career-high ranking of 77, Coria will be aiming for a first title on Sunday.

The Argentine, who was a semifinalist in Cordoba earlier this year, has been in terrific form over the last two months, winning a title and finishing runner-up twice at the Challenger level.

Coria, who has barely played outside of clay, had beaten Francisco Cerundolo and Marco Cecchinato in the first two rounds of the tournament.

Ruud v Coria Prediction and Tip

Calls for a fascinating final between the two clay-court specialists. Ruud’s the top seed and will be expected to win, but will face resistance from the Argentine.
