Peter Gojowczyk v Illya Marchenko Head to Head
While there has been no main draw ATP match played between these two players, they did meet in the qualifiers of the 2016 Halle Open and Gojowczyk had won it in straight sets.

Gojowczyk Hoping to Take Newport Form Forward
Gojowczyk is coming off a solid showing at Hall of Fame Open in Newport where the German player defeated Mitchell Krueger and Vasek Pospisil to make it to the last eight. However, the big question is if he can tweak his game to perform in a similar manner on the hard court surfaces of Los Cabos.
Because the last time Gojowczyk featured on an outdoor hard court surface was in the qualifiers of Australian Open and he lost the first round there.
Yep, Gojowczyk has played just one match on hard courts this year. And following on from just one win he had in the main draw of a hard court competition in 2020, it looks like the leap between these two surfaces would be difficult for Gojowczyk to manage.
The only reason why Gojowczyk still starts a favourite is his opponent, believe it or not, has done worse on this surface.

Marchenko Hasn’t Won on Hard Court in a While
Much like Gojowczyk, Marchenko has also struggled on hard court surfaces in recent times. Which is bit of a surprise given in 2016, Marchenko recorded his best ever Grand Slam performance and it came at US Open – he defeated Ivan Dodig, Damir Dzumhur and Nick Kyrgios to make it to the fourth round there.
Who would have then thought that from there on, Marchenko would not win a match on hard court surfaces again.
Sure, he has registered a few Challenger victories, even winning a title in 2017 but his more recent form outdoors has been poor. And the repercussions of the same can be seen from the way he has fallen to 156th in the world as a result.
That makes it easy to explain why he starts off a 13/5 outsider to win this.
Gojowczyk v Marchenko Prediction and Tip
While the change from grass to hard court will be difficult for Gojowczyk, he still starts a favourite to win this with our call being a straight-set victory for the German player.
Tip: Gojowczyk to win in straight sets: 11/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
