Olga Govortsova v Tamara Korpatsch Head to Head

The Belarusian leads Korpatsch 1-0, last defeating her as recently as 2020 in a Challenger event in straight sets.

Govortsova Starts as the #11 Seed

Olga Govortsova arrived in Gdynia with a win-loss tally of 16-16. Her last tournament was the Ladies Open Lausanne where she lost to Anna Blinkova in the opening match.

In the preceding tournament of the Nordea Open, however, the 32-year-old was a finalist where she took the runner-up trophy after losing to Nuria Parrizas Diaz 2-6, 2-6. The performance in that Challenger event marked Govortsova’s first significant WTA final since the 2013 Tashkent Open.

Currently ranking #126, the Belarusian has spent the better part of 2021 in rather unsuccessful tries to move past the early rounds – be it on the WTA circuit or ITF.

Over the course of her long career starting in 2006, Govortsova’s best singles ranking came in 2008 as World No. 35. A four-time WTA finalist with no singles title yet, she dropped out of the top 100 in 2015 and since then has sought her way back in.

Korpatsch Fresh Off a Great Doubles Run

With the W/L tally placed at 4-10, it suffices to say that the 26-year-old Tamara Korpatsch hasn’t had the best of the season. That said, her form in the past few weeks has been considerably better than where she was in the first half of the year.

The German reached the second round in Bad Homburg and Hamburg to deliver her most consistent and unarguably the best singles performance of 2021. She walked with 60 ranking points between the two – more than what she had accrued in all the preceding tournaments in the season.

Last week in the Hungarian Grand Prix, she was handed a first-round exit by Olga Danilovic. However, in the doubles half, Korpatsch ended up reaching the final with Aliona Bolsova. Even though the pair lost, it was Korpatsch’s single-best run since she turned pro.

Govortsova v Korpatsch Prediction and Tip

Govortsova will fancy her chances of winning here but Korpatsch is coming off a decent run herself. Expect an intriguing game of tennis.
