What Happened at the 2018 Open 13?
In 2018, the competition was won by the rising Russian star Karen Khachanov, who defeated Lucas Pouille in the final in three gruelling sets. That was his first title of the season and he followed that trophy with two more titles over the course of the year.
As for Pouille, it was the second consecutive time in Marseille that he had to settle for the runner-up trophy. He started the event as the third seed and moved on to dominate his half and reach the final. He was definitely relentless, to say the least, given that his matches against Pierre-Hughes Herbert and Filip Krajinovic went to three sets.
Some of the other players who had featured in the previous edition of the tournament in Marseille include David Goffin before he had to withdraw from the tournament because of an eye injury, Stan Wawrinka, who also retired from his second-round match because of a fitness issue, Roberto Bautista Agut, Gilles Muller, Damir Dzumhur and Filip Krajinovic.
