Nishikori Confident After Rublev Victory
Kei Nishikori has had a difficult last few seasons. Once ranked fourth in the world, Nishikori has suffered from injury, pandemic absence and coronavirus itself to fall to within the top 70 in the world.
It has been a mixed season for Nishikori; some good wins, some strong showings with immense grit and character and then some poor losses.
The opener here was one of the highlights of his season with a very convincing win against Andrey Rublev on the Russian’s own favorite surface. The Japanese was in strong nick from the beginning and there was no looking back with a break of serve timely in each set for a 6-3,6-4 win.
Nishikori was a bronze medalist in the 2016 Rio games and while he may not be thinking of that just yet, he will be feeling a lot more confident after a win of this nature.

Giron comes Out Strong In Opener
American Marcos Giron is representing the USA primarily because a number of the higher ranked players have opted out of the games.
The 27-year old has had a fair run since the Covid-19 hiatus now almost a year ago, reaching the second round of a Grand Slam for the maiden time at the US Open and recording his first win over a top ten player when beating Matteo Berrettini at the Paris Masters.
He has continued that form into 2021, reaching the third round of the French Open and his first quarter-final of an ATP 500 tournament in Halle, propelling him to a career high ranking of 64 in the world.
Giron was up against Slovakian Norbert Gombos and it was a tight match. Giron won a tight first set in a tiebreak and then despite losing the second came back strong for a deciding set win with two breaks of serve 6-2, increasing his confidence for what will be a challenging next round.
Nishikori v Giron Prediction and Tip
Nishikori starts as a strong favorite and will be buoyed by the result against Rublev. However, Giron has looked promising this season and wont go out without a fight. Given the Japanese’s grit in deciders, can expect him to pull off a deciding set win.
Tip: Nishikori to win in three sets: 11/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
