Irina Bara v Anna-Lena Friedsam Head to Head
It will be a first meeting between the 123rd-ranked Bara and 129th-ranked Friedsam.

Bara Aiming for an Impressive Start at Home
Local hope Irina Bara is 14-15 from all her matches this year. The 26-year-old, who reached a career-high ranking of 112 earlier this year, flourishes on clay. She has made quite an impact at the ITF level, reaching 21 finals, all on the surface, and winning nine of those titles.
Bara made a splendid Grand Slam debut at the French Open last year, reaching the third round of the tournament, but made a first round exit this year.
A semifinalist at the WTA125 in Bol in June, Bara is 2-3 from three clay court tournaments post a failed attempt to qualify for the Wimbledon. The Romanian lost in the first round in Hamburg, but won her opening matches in Budapest and Gdynia, Poland. She will be looking to start with a win in Cluj-Napoca as well.

Friedsam Will Look to Draw Inspiration from Watson Win
Buoyed by her win over Heather Watson in the first round at the Olympics, Germany’s Anna-Lena Friedsam will look to continue impressing in Romania.
The 27-year-old, who was a runner-up in Lyon last year, has a 13-15 record from all matches this season. She has a better career record on hard courts than on clay, where she has clearly struggled this season, and a 2-5 main draw record from five tournaments speaks for itself.
The German’s best results this year came in Stuttgart and Parma. She qualified for the main draws of both the events and then won her first round matches before falling in the Round of 16.
Irina Bara v Anna-Lena Friedsam Prediction and Tip
Expect this to be a good match, but given Bara’s experience on clay, she will be the favourite to advance.
