Magda Linette v Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove Head to Head
The two ladies have met just once on the tour – a meeting that took place in Charleroi in 2012. Kerkhove won that match 6-2, 6-1.
They have also been on the opposite sides in doubles matches too – Linette has got the upper hand there with wins in all of those matches.

World No. 45 Magda Linette will be hoping for a better run on the North American tour than the one she has had in the preceding tournaments. Most recently, she participated in Tokyo Olympics where she lost her opening round bout to Aryna Sabalenka.
Linette’s season so far has been a fairly decent one by her standards although, it can certainly get a lot better.
Her biggest hits include a semifinal run in the Strasbourg Open and a couple of third-round appearances in the French Open and Wimbledon. Interestingly, in both these majors, the Polish moved past some big guns – Ash Barty in Paris and Elina Svitolina in London to register her first top 10 wins of 2021. As for Linette’s run in other events, she didn’t make it past the early rounds.
The 29-year-old now finds herself in the US Open series where she has some success historically. It was in the Bronx Open in 2019 that Linette won her first WTA title, beating Camila Giorgi in the final. But given the playing field here in the Silicon Valley Classic, it will be a challenge for her to deliver such a feat again.

Kerkhove Clears Qualifiers
29-year-old Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove cleared both of her qualifying matches to reach the main draw in San Jose. Her last match was a challenging one as she had to move past the top seeded qualifier Anastasia Potapova in three sets.
The current world number 157 has spent a majority of her season playing on the ITF circuit with a few cameos in WTA events. Needless to say, she has not found a lot of joy in either with her best run coming in Wimbledon where she reached the second round as a qualifier.
Before arriving in San Jose, Kerkhove featured in an ITF event in Spain in July – she reached the quarterfinal there before succumbing to Ane Mintegi Del Olmo in straight sets.
