Benoit Paire v Mackenzie McDonald Head to Head

Benoit Paire has been involved in just one career head-to-head battle with Mackenzie McDonald. The pair met in the third round of the outdoor, clay-court event in Lyon, France in 2019, with the Frenchman coming through in three hard-fought sets.

Paire Finished in Atlanta Last 16

Coming into the Atlanta Open on the back of two quarter-final finishes at the German Open and Swiss Open, Paire opened his campaign with a closely fought win over Yasutaka Uchiyama.

The Frenchman took the opening set quite comfortably but his Japanese rival fought back well, winning the second in a tiebreak. However, Paire had the last laugh as he secured a decisive break of serve in the final set and closed out a win in three sets.

The last-16 tie against rising Finnish star Emil Ruusuvuori also seemed to be going his way, with the maverick Frenchman bagging the first set 6-4.

However, just when Paire seemed poised to progress to the quarter-finals, the searing heat in Atlanta got to him.

The 49th-ranked Frenchman lost a gallop to go down by a similar margin in the second set and pulled out of the contest in the deciding set, with Ruusuvuori leading 3-0.

While Washington is guaranteed to produce far more tolerable weather, Paire will still have a testing time against a rising and a plucky American in McDonald.

McDonald Recovers from Atlanta Disappointment

Rising from the crushing opening-round exits to compatriot Ernesto Escobedo at Los Cabos and Ruusuvuori in Atlanta, McDonald had a tough opener in Washington against seasoned Australian star Nick Kyrgios.

However, the 26-year-old, who is currently placed just outside the Top-100 in singles, played out of his skin to take down the burly Australian in straight sets.

Leaving the Australian in a daze with some sublime tennis, McDonald took the opening set 6-4 and dished out more of the same in the second to close out a comfortable straight-set win.

The belief he derived from the Kyrgios upset will stand him in good stead against the Frenchman in the third-round tie.

Paire v McDonald Prediction and Tip

With Paire notorious in the circuit to blow hot and cold, McDonald will fancy his chances of settling the head-to-head score against the Frenchman.

Paire, on his part, will seek to regain the form that took him to back-to-back quarter-finals.
