Badosa Getting Over Olympic Disappointment

Badosa is getting over her Olympic disappointment after she reached the quarter-finals and appeared to have a chance of winning a medal at least before she was forced to retire injured from her quarter-final match with Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic.

However, she got back on the winning trail with a  comfortable victory over the world number 47, Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland in their first-round appearance.

Badosa actually began the match badly, dropping her opening service game. But she hit back to level straight away, and then went a break up. One more break gave her the set.

Again, the Spaniard dropped her service at the start of the second set, but recovering immediately with a break of her own.

Then the pair swapped breaks again, but, this time, Badosa secured another break and was able to serve out for the match to love.

Wildcard Marino Shocks Keys in First Round

Marino was once a top 40 player before she dropped out of competitive tennis to study for a degree and to become a certified coach.

She primarily competes on the ITF circuit where, last month, she won her first title for two years in Evansville, USA.

This is a relatively rare excursion for her on to the senior tour, and she made the most of being given a wildcard in Montreal by shocking Madison Keys, the number 16 seed, in straight sets on Monday night.

The Canadian began well, securing an early service break against the American, and then in her next game, saving two break back points, before going on to close out the first set.

Keys appeared to be fighting back when she secured a break of her own early in the second set. But then she dropped her own serve again next game and soon found herself a break down.

The wildcard was able to underline her dominance by breaking Keys once more to wrap-up the win.

Badosa v Marino Prediction and Tip

Although Marino will be buoyed by her win over Keys, Badosa is a different proposition altogether and should progress easily to the third round.
