Andrey Rublev v John Isner Head to Head
Isner has a 2-0 head-to-head record against the Russian. He won in Miami six years ago and then in Madrid this year, winning the Round of 16 contest 7-6, 3-6, 7-6.

Rublev Gets His Third Win Over Fognini This Year
Tokyo Olympics mixed doubles gold medalist, Andrey Rublev began his Canadian Open campaign on Wednesday with a straight sets win over Italy’s Fabio Fognini. This was a third win for the fourth seed over the Italian this year, having beaten him at the ATP Cup and Wimbledon previously.
The World No. 7 edged out Fognini in the first set tiebreak and then got the only break in the second to seal the contest 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 in an hour and 33 minutes.
This was Rublev’s fourth win against the Italian. Fognini had a 5-1 head-to-head lead over the Russian before the start of the year.
The 23-year-old Russian, who won five titles last year, hasn’t added to his Rotterdam triumph this year, but has been a consistent performer on the tour. Two runner-up and three semifinal finishes are testament to that.
Against Fognini, Rublev struck 13 aces and 23 winners to notch his first win in Toronto and improve to 37-12 in 2021.

Isner Beats Garin For the First Time
John Isner extended his unbeaten streak to seven matches as he fought back from a set down to beat Chile’s Cristian Garin in the second round of the Canadian Open on Wednesday.
Isner served 21 aces against Garin’s four to win the two-hour-and-14-minute contest 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Broken once in the first set, the American took control of the proceedings in the next and then got the sole break in the third to get his first-ever win over the World No. 20, who had won the previous two matches between the two, with one of them being at the Canadian Open in 2019.
The 6’10” American, who won the Atlanta Open two weeks ago, had begun his campaign with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the first round.
A semifinalist in Toronto in 2012 and a quarterfinalist in 2015, the World No. 30 improved to 18-8 this season and will be aiming to keep the momentum going in the Round of 16.
Rublev v Isner Prediction and Tip
Rublev is the fourth seed and will be expected to advance but the Russian will be wary of the towering American. Isner hasn’t lost against Rublev and is in great form. Very likely the match will need a third set to separate the two.
