Karolina Pliskova v Sara Sorribes Tormo Head to Head

Pliskova won their only meeting at the Australian open in 2017, winning the first round contest in straights sets.

Pliskova Holds Off Anisimova

A day after surviving a scare against Donna Vekic, the fourth seed Pliskova marched into the quarterfinals with a straight sets win over Amanda Anisimova.

The Wimbledon finalist made a brisk start to the Round of 16 contest, breaking the American thrice to take the first set 6-1 in 22 minutes. She also got an early break in the second, but Anisimova refused to surrender, getting the break back and forcing the tiebreak. It was a dramatic tiebreak that swung from one end to the other, before Pliskova finally sealed the contest for a 6-1, 7-6 (10-8) win in an hour and 23 minutes.

The victory came a day after the World No. 6 was forced to battle past Vekic 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) in a two-hour-and-35-minute second round contest.

The former World No. 1, who is chasing a 17th career title, is into her third quarterfinal in Montreal. She has however never made it to the final four of the Rogers Cup, having lost in the last eight in 2017 and 2019.

Sorribes Tormo Edges Past Siniakova

Building on what has been a remarkable season, Sorribes Tormo entered the quarterfinals in Montreal after a gutsy third-round fightback against the Czech Republic’s Katerina Siniakova.

Both players broke each other thrice in the first set to force the tiebreak, which Siniakova won 7-4. Pegged back in the first, the Spaniard made a resounding comeback, bageling the Czech in the second to take it to the decider. Sinikova got two breaks in the third, but it was Sorribes Tormo who dominated the proceedings, breaking her opponent’s serve four times to wrap up the contest 6-7 (4-7), 6-0, 6-3 in two hours and 50 minutes.

Ranked 48th in the world, Sorribes Tormo had begun her campaign with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Canada’s Carol Zhao in the first round. She also dished out a strong performance in the second round defeating Russia’s Liudmila Samsonova 6-4, 6-3.

The 24-year-old who won the Guadalajara title earlier this year, was a semifinalist in Monterrey and Hamburg and a quarterfinalist in Miami.

Pliskova v Sorribes Tormo Prediction and Tip
