Jil Teichmann v Sorana Cirstea Head to Head
There have been four previous meetings between these two players with three of them having come on the ITF circuit. In their only match on the WTA tour, Teichmann defeated Cirstea in straight sets in Linz. That win came following three successive defeats in ITF tournaments before that.

Since making it to the semifinal at WTA Dubai earlier this season, Teichmann’s form has fallen by the wayside. In the 12 matches that she has played since then, the Swiss player has won just three.
And while one of those three wins came against Elina Svitolina, struggles against other, lower-ranked players and fitness problems to go with it have pushed her ranking down to 65th in the world.
Teichmann enters this tournament on a back of a fighting performance against Danielle Collins though. With Collins having gone on a 12-match winning streak, she was one of the dark horses at Rogers Cup last week but Teichmann did manage to pull her back a tad.
In the end, Teichmann went down fighting but not before she had scooped a set off her opponent. Can she do something similar here?

Cirstea Hasn’t Won in Cincinnati Since 2012
It’s been a while since Cirstea won an encounter at Cincinnati Open with her last victory in the main draw coming in 2012. In fact in her previous three attempts here, Cirstea has failed to qualify for the main draw too, with those coming in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
This time around it might just be a different kettle of fish for the Romanian as she enters her opener here as a favourite.
And this tag comes as a result of her overall performances this year which have seen her win 20 and lose just 12 of her matches. It includes her first ever WTA title victory too since 2008, and a fourth round appearance at French Open.
In hard court tournaments, Cirstea hasn’t done as well with a 7-5 win-loss record for 2021 but the third round appearance at Australian Open points to the Romanian being no mug on this surface.
Teichmann v Cirstea Prediction and Tip
Bookmakers have Cirstea as a favourite in this and rightly so at that. Question is whether it’s worth taking the risk to go with a straight-set win for Cirstea.
