26-year-old Jennifer Brady has had an astonishing season so far. Currently ranked World No. 14 – her best singles ranking to date – she will now look to go beyond in conditions where she achieved prominence around the same time last season.
Back then, she ranked #49 on the WTA Tour but following a title run in the WTA Lexington – her first singles title – and a semifinal appearance in the US Open propelled her into the top 30.
Brady has done well to maintain that rhythm in 2021, at least at the start of the year. While she hasn’t been entirely consistent on the tour, the American’s semifinal feat in the Grampians Trophy and the runner-up feat in the Australian Open have done just enough to make her a formidable force. On clay, Brady’s form took a sharp hit as her best result came in the French Open in the form of a third-round run.
She sat out the grass swing and featured in the Tokyo Olympics, where she lost to Camila Giorgi in the opener.

Alexandrova, Seeking Reprieve in Cincinnati
Ekaterina Alexandrova hasn’t had the best of the season so far but whatever promising runs she has delivered, the majority of them have been in hard court tournaments.
In WTA Abu Dhabi and the Australian Open, she reached the third round while in the Gippsland Trophy, she was a semifinalist after defeating the likes of Simona Halep and Iga Swiatek.
Alexandrova’s entire season is dotted with such performances where she has made it to the third round or so but never quite managed to go further. That said, over the course of the year, she has defeated a few top players like Elina Svitolina, Venus Williams, and Belinda Bencic. The Russian last featured in the Olympics where she succumbed to Nadia Podoroska in the second round.
Brady v Alexandrova Prediction and Tip
Brady will start as the odds-on favourite but quite frankly, this match can just as easily go Alexandrova’s way. Both players are talented enough to avoid an upset and will definitely put up a good fight.
