Elise Mertens v Nadia Podoroska Head to Head
Mertens leads Podoroska 1-0 although, that meeting took place in 2015. In the six years since then, the Argentinean has come a long way and will look to even the scores this time around.

Mertens Hoping to Betting Last Year’s Performance
Elise Mertens was a semifinalist in the Cincinnati Open last year – this time around, she will look to go the distance.
But a fairly competitive bracket with the likes of Aryna Sabalenka, Karolina Pliskova, and Simona Halep lurking right around, it is definitely easier said than done.
On the whole, the Belgian will be pleased with the season she has had so far. Currently ranked World No. 16, she won the Gippsland Trophy at the start of the year and later reached the final in the Istanbul Cup (losing to Sorana Cirstea). Mertens also reached the penultimate rounds in WTA Dubai, Madrid Open, and more recently, in the WTA San Jose.
On the doubles circuit, she retained her No. 1 spot on the back of doubles titles in the Australian Open, Istanbul Cup, and Wimbledon.
Her last tournament was the WTA Montreal where she fell to the eventual finalist Camila Giorgi in straight sets.

Podoroska, Fresh Off an Early Loss in Montreal
After Camila Giorgi took care of Elise Mertens in the opener, she moved on to dispatch the 24-year-old Nadia Podoroska with 6-2, 6-4 in the second round.
That was Argentinean’s first professional tournament since the Olympics where she had succumbed to Paula Badosa in the third round. Most of Podoroska’s season is marked with such early-round exits as she continues the hunt for her first singles title on the WTA Tour.
Her best performance of 2021 came in the Yarra Valley Classic Open where she reached the quarterfinal after defeating Petra Kvitova in the preceding round. The world number 38 also reached the third round in the Italian Open, upsetting Serena Williams en route.
Mertens v Podoroska Prediction and Tip
Mertens, given her overall form and pedigree on the tour, will start as the favourite. That said, Podoroska has proven herself to be a worthy opponent who is not to be taken lightly. If she finds her groove on Monday, we may very well witness an upset.
