Heather Watson v Aliaksandra Sasnovich Head to Head

The pair has never met before on the WTA Tour.

Watson Qualifies for Main Draw

29-year-old Brit Heather Watson has never made it past the first round here in the Cincinnati Open. Starting as a qualifier this time around, she moved past Katie Volynets and Rebecca Peterson to reach the main draw.

Now, she will look to deliver her best result in the competition (and arguably on the tour) by making it to round two.

Looking at Watson’s season so far, it is marked by myriads of early-round exits. Except for the WTA Nottingham and WTA Birmingham where she reached the round of 16 and semifinal respectively, Watson hasn’t made it past the opening rounds in any other WTA event.

Following her first-round exit in the Olympics, Watson participated in the WTA Montreal last week where she was beaten in the qualifiers by Clara Burel.

Sasnovich, Braving a Similar Tide

World No. 90 Aliaksandra Sasnovich is sailing in a similar tide to that of Watson’s. Her season too is dotted with a bunch of early-round losses but comparatively, her performance has been slightly better.

Among the notable highlights include a quarterfinal appearance in WTA Saint-Malo and Serbia Ladies Open, followed by a second-round exit in the French Open. At Wimbledon, luck favoured the Belarusian by taking her to the third round (after a first-round semi-win over Serena Williams). That run at SW19 also saw Sasnovich walk away with the most ranking points in 2021.

Her last event was in Gdynia where she made it to round two before losing to Kateryna Kozlova. Just like Watson, Sasnovich too started as a qualifier in Cincinnati and defeated Kristina Mladenovic and Andrea Petkovic to reach the main round.

Watson v Sasnovich Prediction and Tip

Watson may be the higher-ranked player here but her form has been on the opposite end of the spectrum. Sasnovich has had her moments in 2021 and there is no reason why can’t play in the same vein here in Cinci.
