Karolina Pliskova v Jessica Pegula Head to Head
In what is bound to be a frustrating experience for Pliskova (and a rewarding one for Pegula), the Czech trails 0-4 to the American with all four of those losses coming in 2021.
Their first meeting took place in WTA Doha where Pegula won in straight sets. In the following weeks, they met in Dubai and Miami where it was a similar story with Pegula winning both those encounters.
Most recently, they met in Berlin where Pliskova, despite her best efforts, lost 7-5, 6-2.
Pegula Benefits from Halep’s Retirement
Jessica Pegula’s recent form has been absolutely phenomenal and it is good to see her play in the same vein here in Cincinnati.
Last week in the Canadian Open, she stormed into the semis after defeating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Danielle Collins, and Ons Jabeur. In the semifinal, she fell to the eventual champion Camila Giorgi in three sets.
This week, the 27-year-old started her Western & Southern Open campaign by getting revenge over Giorgi in the opener with 6-2, 6-2.
In the next round, she was supposed to face Simona Halep but the Romanian withdrew from the tournament with an injury, thus giving Pegula a walkover into the third round.
With an extra day of rest, she is bound to have a definite edge over Pliskova. So far this year, Pegula has made it to the quarterfinal in Bett1 Open, WTA Dubai, Italian Open, and the Australian Open. On the back of this consistency, she cracked the top 30.

Pliskova Starts Strong
Enjoying a bye into the second round, Karolina Pliskova kickstarted her week in Cincinnati with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Yulia Putintseva. Now, she finds herself at a psychological disadvantage against a player who has beaten her four times already in 2021.
But given Pliskova’s comparatively superior pedigree and experience on the tour, which encompasses two Grand Slam finals and several other finals in the WTA1000 series events, she is more than equipped to beat Pegula.
Moreover, World No. 6 arrived for the tournament following a runner-up feat in the Canadian Open last week. That was her third such run of the year with the other two finalist trophies coming in the Italian Open and Wimbledon Championships.
Pliskova v Pegula Prediction and Tip
On some level, this is personal for Pliskova as she looks to avenge her multitude of losses to Pegula. I’m going to back her to do so although, it may turn into a slogfest.
Tip: Pliskova to win 2-1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
