Petra Kvitova v Angelique Kerber Head to Head

The two ladies share an incredible rivalry spanning over three decades.

In the 15 times they have met so far, Kvitova holds a slim lead over Kerber with 8-7.

The pair have met twice this year – once in Madrid and the other time in Bad Homburg. Kvitova won the clay encounter while Kerber won the grass one.

Kvitova, Yet to Drop a Set in Cincinnati

World No. 11 Petra Kvitova has proven her mettle in Cincinnati following a drop in the form over the last few weeks.

She started her campaign with a 7-5, 6-4 win over former top 10 player Madison Keys and next defeated the Russian Veronika Kudermetova 6-2, 6-4. With every match, Kvitova has gotten progressively better as evident from her 6-1, 6-2 win over Ons Jabeur in the third round. With these results, she has also bettered her performance in Montreal last week where she fell in the round of 16 to Camila Giorgi.

By her standards, Kvitova hasn’t had that impressive of a year – her highlights include the title run in WTA Doha and a semifinal appearance in the Bad Homburg Open. The 31-year-old was also a quarterfinalist in Stuttgart and Madrid.

Her ongoing week in Cincinnati is undoubtedly one of her best ones in 2021 but things will get only difficult from this point on. Should she conquer Kerber, she will next face the winner of the game between Ashleigh Barty & Barbora Krejcikova.

Kerber Fights her Way through to Quarters

Former World No. 1 Angelique Kerber has delivered a string of impressive results in the Western & Southern Open, leaving a trail of rather formidable opponents in her wake.

In the opener, she defeated Maria Sakkari 6-2, 6-2 and followed it with a three-set win over the World No. 6 Elina Svitolina. In the third round, she met the 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko and beat her 4-6, 6-2, 7-5. That match lasted for a little under two hours with the final set witnessing a loss of serves from both players. The German was down 1-3 before she pulled back – even after that, she lost her serve a couple of times but then again, so did Ostapenko.

Kerber has enjoyed an impressive resurgence in the second half of the season, starting with a title run in Bad Homburg and later reaching the semis in the Wimbledon Championships.

She has clearly done well to build on this consistency and now faces one of her toughest tests yet.

Kvitova v Kerber Prediction and Tip

This is a clash between two evenly matched and equally experienced players. But if we’re to pick a winner, I’ll have to go with Kvitova – she has looked far better and more confident than her German adversary in Cincinnati.
