Tamara Zidansek v Varvara Gracheva Head to Head
In their one and only encounter on the WTA Tour, Gracheva emerged victorious with 6-0, 7-5 in WTA Dubai 2019.

Tamara Zidansek arrived for the Chicago Ladies Open on the back of a straight-set loss to Jelena Ostapenko in the Cincinnati Open first-round last week.
However, that sole defeat does not do justice to her breakthrough season which entails an entry into the top 50 and her best Grand Slam showing yet. The 23-year-old Slovenian was a semifinalist in the French Open and later, the champion in the Ladies Open Lausanne. Zidansek defeated Clara Burel in the final there to lift the first singles trophy of her career.
Earlier in the season, Zidansek was also the runner-up in the Copa Colsanitas.
That said, Zidansek hasn’t been entirely consistent throughout the year. There are many tournaments where she has been beaten right in the early rounds but on the whole, the World No. 40 has got the goods to deliver a promising run in Chicago.

Gracheva, Struggling with Form
World No. 89 Varvara Gracheva has spent her last few weeks alternating between the WTA and Challenger events but hasn’t found much joy in either.
Most recently, she featured in the Chicago Challenger where the 21-year-old Russian succumbed to Storm Sanders in round two. Prior to that, she participated in the Belgrade Ladies Open where she incurred a similar defeat, this time to Krystina Pliskova.
The best Gracheva has delivered in 2021 is a third-round run in the French Open to walk away with 130 ranking points – the most she has accrued in any tournament. Apart from that, she was also a semifinalist in the WTA125 Saint-Malo Open.
